Robert Mallia
Painter
Robert Mallia began painting in his teens and has now amassed a body of work spanning more than seventy years. Largely self-taught, he has saved his most prolific efforts for recent years since retirement unburdened him from his “day job”. Extensive travels during his working years inspired many of his works which have ranged from the mountains and coastlines of America to castles in Europe, landmarks of Australia and the colors of Southeast Asia. Studies in art history and appreciation influenced his preference toward realistic treatments without diminishing his admiration for other genres, especially impressionism. His early works were in oils, but today he much prefers acrylics for reasonably equivalent blending characteristics with an ease of preparation which encourages more frequent painting. Viewers of his work tend to comment on the vividness of color and meticulous detail employed.
Originally from Schenectady, New York, Mr. Mallia has also lived in Connecticut and Maine. He and his wife, Maureen, have now resided in White House, Tennessee for more than thirty years. He displays regularly at Gallery on the Square in Franklin, Kentucky and periodically does shows elsewhere. His works are in private collections in more than a dozen states, as well as hanging in a number of institutions and commercial establishments. He accepts commissions on subjects he deems within his realm of interest and capability and can provide guidelines as to their cost.
