Featured Guild Artist

Shandi Owens is a thirty year old artist originally from Southwest Virginia. She was born and raised in coal country. When she wasn’t playing in the creek outside or riding bikes until the sun went down, she was drawing or painting. She has always had a love for art. She moved to Portland, Tennessee in 2018. Shandi took a break from art for a number of years but in 2021 rediscovered her love and drive for it.

She works mostly with charcoal, but over the last year she have been teaching herself how to paint with acrylics. Shandi mostly draws and paints animals, but has been drawing Christian based artworks as well. Shandi also organizes and put on the Annual Strawberry Festival Art Showcase every year to provide local artists the opportunity to show their work to the community.

On November 17th, 2024, the morning of my thirtieth birthday, Shandi gave my life to Jesus Christ and was baptized. She has been working to incorporate her love for Jesus and her faith into my artwork. Shandi feels very blessed to be able to create art and to share her works with others. This is a skill that she is very grateful for. It provides her an opportunity to disconnect from the seriousness of life and to share her love for art and Jesus with others.
